This made it hard to achieve the personal goals we had set for ourselves last year. This time around, we have to be flexible when creating our personal goals, inspiring creative ways to achieve them. By laying the groundwork, you are taking an extra step in ensuring that the foundation can be solid, and you will be able to take on any obstacles you encounter when building the best version of yourself, and simultaneously tackling your 2022 personal goals!

Determining where you need to improve helps deepen your understanding of how you need to improve. To start, take some time to analyze your life and what areas you have found yourself struggling with or spaces you think could use more attention. The great thing about them being personal goals is that they can be for anything so you can have some fun with it. Having a plan to achieve new career heights or setting up a fresh nightly routine are just a few small examples of areas in which you can work towards improving.

Identifying key areas in your life may take some time, so give yourself some patience, you deserve it, and it will benefit you in the long run. If you are struggling to find areas to improve upon (remember there is always room for improvement, nobody is perfect!), you may want to take the route of mapping out the hardships in your life and designating them to a specific area. Nine times out of ten, the areas of your life that you struggle with can be fixed with some added effort in their direction. Pinpointing the major areas before pursuing helps guarantee your effort and energy will be utilized effectively.

Also known as daily objectives, a short-term goal can be things that you want to accomplish during the day or throughout your week. For example, wanting to reduce the amount of screen time you have each day can be a great, achievable daily task. One way you can do this is by blocking out time throughout the day to minimize screen time intake and instead, focus on healthier, mindfulness alternatives such as journaling or reading. To do this, set a total amount of time each day that you plan to be behind a screen whether that be your phone, TV, or computer.

On days where this is unattainable, consider taking preventative measures to preserve your eye health and overall well-being. For instance, wearing blue blocker glasses to protect your eyes from screens can help reduce the effects of blue light and prevent eye strain. This is especially helpful if you work from home on a computer all day but still have a goal to decrease your screen time. Long-term goals might include working towards a new career position or even a new health and fitness routine. These are areas of your life that you realistically cannot achieve or change overnight. These goals come into fruition when you stay consistent and work towards them daily. It’s important to have a mix of some short and long-term because the satisfaction of accomplishing your smaller goals helps build you up to achieve those pesky longer ones.

Let’s be honest, we could all use a little help sometimes, even if we don’t want to admit it. Having a team or even just one person to hold you accountable while pursuing your goals can be the difference between success and failure. If you have a significant other, reach out to them and see if they are willing to walk with you through this. If you don’t, look to a friend or anybody close to your life that you have a relationship with for guidance. It’s important that this person has some sort of understanding of how you operate and what your tendencies and triggers are. The better they know you, the more likely they are to reach out and help before you crack. Having a strong support system can also offer direction, advice, and motivation.

Once you have located the areas of your life that you would like to improve, it’s time to go after them. Setting your goals is going to look different from others, that’s why they are personal Arguably one of the biggest obstacles most people experience over time is finding a way to stay consistent. When you establish your goals and start working towards them, they are new and refreshing. However, the world keeps spinning and life continues to go on. That being said, you may encounter situations that seem more pressing and more urgent, it is important to address and tackle these situations while keeping your goals within focus. Finding a system or routine that you can stick with may be the biggest hill you have to conquer. For starters, you can take a moment before your day starts to write down what you hope to accomplish for the day in a personalized planner unique to you and your needs.

Writing down your tasks can help focus your mind on them throughout the day. If this doesn’t work, or you find yourself skipping days, write them on a sticky note and pin them to your workstation. This way, from the moment you wake up, you know what you are working towards that day and clouds the procrastination that may come. Another very simple route you can take is to remind yourself why you started. After a couple of months of working towards something, your life might look a lot different, and it may be hard to put yourself back into the mindset that you had when you started. Tracking those goals, having somebody to hold you accountable and reminding yourself of the “why” you started can give you the confidence, inspiration, and motivation to achieve anything and everything you set forth to do.
